It also feels good when R.E.S.T can help individualS

Jimmy receiving furniture for his new apart

For two long years, this gentleman found himself without a home, spending his days on 11th Street, anxiously awaiting the approval of his SSI benefits. Enduring the heat of summer and the bitter cold of winter, his situation was far from ideal.

I approached him with an offer of assistance concerning his SSI application, to which he responded with a resounding “Yes.” Today, he is receiving the benefits he deserves. He is content, at peace, and has a place to call his own.

What I’ve given him, after a long period of absence, is a spark of HOPE.

From the Streets to Shelter: A Photographic Narrative of Rest Chattanooga

We met Janet and Billy in October of 2022 while accompanying my husband during an outing with the Vision of Mercy Ministry.

Janet was confined to a wheelchair and I inquired if she needed assistance. She explained her inability to walk due to a hip condition that required surgery. Billy was not working because he didn’t want to leave Janet alone without support.

Teaming up with a local law firm, we initiated the process for Janet’s Supplemental Security Income (SSI) application.

Within two months, they relocated to the 12th Street encampment, and, they were settling into their new home.

They also lacked transportation and healthcare. I personally provided Janet transportation for grocery shopping. Then after collaborating with another program to address her healthcare needs, I provided transportation to her medical appointments.

Presently, Janet has undergone hip surgery and is awaiting the approval of her SSI application, which is 90% complete.
